Major April J. Barron was born and raised in Des Plaines, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 1994 receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Nutritional Sciences/Dietetics and a minor in Social Gerontology. MAJ Barron earned a Master of Science in Dietetics from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee in 2003. She is currently employed by Purity Dialysis Centers as a Registered Dietitian.

Military Experience: MAJ Barron enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1989, and became a member of the 44th General Hospital in Madison. As an enlisted soldier, she received training as a 91Q (Pharmacy Specialist). In 1997 she received a Direct Commission in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Registered Dietitian.

As an officer, her assignments have included working as a Hospital Dietitian for both the 4221st U.S. Army Hospital in Madison and the 452d Combat Support Hospital in Milwaukee. She also served as a Company Executive Officer and the Battalion S-4 (Logistics Officer) for 3-334, 2nd BDE, 84th DIV (IT) in Milwaukee. She is currently assigned to 8th BDE SROTC, 84th DIV (IT), in Milwaukee, and she is attached to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater as a Military Science Instructor.
