MAJ Nyenhuis graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1987 and received a commission as an Engineer Officer in the US Army Reserve. Upon completion of Engineer Officer Basic, he was assigned as a Horizontal Construction Platoon Leader in the 961st Engineer Battalion (Combat)(Heavy) in Pewaukee, WI. MAJ Nyenhuis served in several positions in the 961st Engineers including Vertical Construction Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Battalion Plans Officer, Intelligence Officer and Adjutant. After leaving the 961st Engineer Battalion, MAJ Nyenhuis was assigned to the US Army Facility Engineer Group, 416th Theater Engineer Command in Ft. McCoy, WI. He deployed with a Facility Engineer Team in March 2001 in support of NATO peacekeeping operations in Kosovo, serving as the Operations Officer of the Task Force Falcon Directorate of Public Works. In 2003 MAJ Nyenhuis deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Project Engineer for 3rd US Army. MAJ Nyenhuis has participated in several overseas construction missions including operations in Honduras, Germany, Egypt, South Korea, Belize and the South Pacific. MAJ Nyenhuis’ military schools include the Engineer Officer Basic Course, the Engineer Officer Advanced Course, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School and The Army Intermediate Leader Education Course. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (2), the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal (Expeditionary), Global War on Terrorism Medal (Service), the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device (2), the Army Service Ribbon, the Reserve Forces Overseas Training Ribbon (6) and the Kosovo NATO Service Medal. MAJ Nyenhuis is married to Jill and they have two children, Kayla and Colin.
