Mr. Nyenhuis graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1987 and received a commission as an Engineer Officer in the US Army Reserve. Upon completion of Engineer Officer Basic, he was assigned as a Platoon Leader in the 961st Engineer Battalion (Combat)(Heavy) in Pewaukee, WI. Mr. Nyenhuis served in several positions in the 961st Engineers including Company Commander, Battalion Plans Officer and Adjutant. After leaving the 961st Engineer Battalion, Mr. Nyenhuis was assigned to the US Army Facility Engineer Group, 416th Theater Engineer Command in Ft. McCoy, WI. He deployed with a Facility Engineer Team in March 2001 in support of NATO peacekeeping operations in Kosovo, serving as the Operations Officer of the Task Force Falcon Directorate of Public Works. Mr. Nyenhuis deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, in 2003 as a Project Engineer for 3rd US Army and again in 2008 with the US Army Corps of Engineers as Officer in Charge of construction for the Al Anbar Iraq Area Office with offices in Fallujah, Ramadi and Al Asad Airbase Mr. Nyenhuis has also participated in several overseas construction missions including operations in Honduras, Germany, Egypt, South Korea, Belize and the South Pacific. His military schools include the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School and The Army Intermediate Leader Education Course. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal (Expeditionary), Global War on Terrorism Medal (Service), the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device (2) and Silver Hourglass, the Army Service Ribbon, the Reserve Forces Overseas Training Ribbon (6) and the Kosovo NATO Service Medal. Mr. Nyenhuis is married to Jill and they have two children, Kayla and Colin.
