Sergeant First Class Matthew N. Pederson enlisted into the U.S. Army on November 27, 1992 after graduating from Monroe High School, Monroe, WI. He attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina; he then stayed at Fort Jackson and attended Advanced Training, where he became a Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic.

His Active Army assignments include, HHC 92nd Engineer Battalion (Heavy) (1993-1994) at Fort Stewart, GA. 1st Battalion 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) (1994-1996) at Torii Station, Okinawa, Japan. A Battery 94th Field Artillery (1996-1997-1999-2000) HHB 1st Armored Division at Baumholder, Germany. WI Army National Guard Assignments include, 1158th Transportation Company (2000-2004) Beloit, WI. Wisconsin Recruiting and Retention Command (2004-2007) Fort Atkinson, WI. He is presently serving as an Army National Guard Officer Recruiter and Military Science Instructor at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, U.S. Army ROTC.

SFC Pederson is a graduate of the US Army Airborne School, the Primary Leadership and Development Course (PLDC); the Defense Information School Radio and Television Broadcasting Course; the Professional Education Center, Army National Guard Strength Maintenance, Recruiting Course; Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course (BNCOC) Phase 2 Recruiter Conversion Course. His Awards and Decorations include Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (4), Good Conduct Medal (4), National Defense Service Medal (2) NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), and Reserve Forces Overseas Service Ribbon.

SSG Pederson currently resides in Lake Mills, WI. He is active as a volunteer where he is the WI Collegiate Rugby All-Star Coach, Assistant Coach UW Whitewater and the President of the Wisconsin Rugby Club.
