Master Sergeant Philip E. Peters is a native of Wooster, Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1985 and attended Basic Training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.

MSG Peters has served in a variety of leadership positions to include Cannon Fire Direction Chief Computer, Observer/Controller-Trainer, Battalion Fire Control NCO, Platoon Sergeant and Battalion Operations Sergeant. His most recent assignment was as a Battery First Sergeant in the 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery (3/2 SBCT).

His assignments include tours to Fort Riley, Kansas with the 1st Infantry Division; Baumholder, Germany in the 1st Armored Division; two tours to Camp Casey, Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division and two tours to Fort Lewis, Washington, also with the 2nd Infantry Division. MSG Peters most recently had an extended tour with Army's first Stryker Brigade Combat Team (3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, "Arrowhead") during their initial formation and subsequent combat deployments. His combat deployments include service in Operation Desert Storm (1991) and two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Mosul (2003-2004) and Taji, Iraq (2006-2007).

MSG Peters' awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Army Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Army Superior Unit Award and the Combat Action Badge. He is also a member of the Honorable Order of St. Barbara. His military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, the Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, the Observer/Controller Academy, the Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, the Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officers Course and the First Sergeants Course.
