Sergeant First Class David C Shono is a second generation Infantry NCO. He enlisted 20 Aug. 1992, and attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) as an Infantryman at Ft. Benning, Ga.
He has served in numerous leadership positions including Team Leader, Squad Leader, Weapons Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and Patrol Leader. He is presently serving as an Army National Guard Officer Recruiter and Military Science Instructor at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, U.S. Army ROTC.
His stateside assignments include 4-325 Airborne Infantry Regiment (1993-1998) at Ft. Bragg, NC, 2/127th INF Mech. (1998-2000) at Hartford, WI, 2/128th INF (2000-2003) at Oconomowoc, WI, 1/128th INF (2004-2005) at Menomonee, WI, Recruiting and Retention Officer Strength Force (2006-Present) at UW-Whitewater, WI.
His deployments include 6 months in Sinai, Egypt in support of the Multinational Forces and Observers, and 12 months in Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
SFC Shono is a graduate of the Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), the Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course (BNCOC). SFC Shono is also a graduate of the Airborne School, Ranger School, and the Recruiting Career Counselor Badge. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal (two awards), Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal (two awards), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Ribbon (with 'M' device), Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon (w/ numeral 2), Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon (w/ numeral 2), Army Reserve Component Achievement Award (three awards), Superior Unit Award, and The Recruiting Bar. SFC Shono is also a recipient of the Expert Infantryman's Badge, Combat Infantryman's Badge and the British Parachutist Wings.
