Edgewood College is just west of the main campus of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, just minutes from the heart of downtown. A private, liberal arts college based on the Catholic-Dominican tradition, Edgewood college strives to teach students to discover the truths of the world by partnering with the community and renowned professors.
Offering 40 majors, 32 minors and the ability to create individualized programs, Edgewood College has a lot to offer students looking at many different fields. The college boasts small class sizes and a focus on individual students and their needs. Most well known for their Nursing and Business degrees, Edgewood also offers opportunities for study abroad as well as for classes not specifically offered on their campus through partnerships with the nearby UW - Madison.
With a small campus and being within a few miles of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Edgewood college does not hold ROTC classes at their campus. Instead, through a partnership with UW - Madison, students wishing to engage in ROTC at Edgewood College take their Military Science classes on the UW - Madison campus, to include a once or twice weekly lecture and a once weekly lab. Students are also required to participate in weekly physical training sessions held at the Shell ont he UW - Madison campus. Students shouldn't be discouraged by the distance as the large size of the UW - Madison and Edgewood programs will generally accomodate younger students who may not have access to transportation of their own.
Students can expect to be challenged by a number of different exercises as an ROTC Cadet. Besides the weekly physical trianing and classes, ROTC offers the ability for cadets to engage in any number of additional activities. Cadets conduct 2 overnight field training exercises (FTXs) each year at Ft. McCoy in Sparta WI. Additionaly, the schools of the Badger Battalion compete in the Ranger Challenger, designed to challenge cadets in individual and team events to build skills and teamwork. Cadets are also encouraged to compete for the German Armed Forces Badge, a task requiring the completion of a number of events including pistol shooting, running, swimming, the long jump and the shot put.There are also opportunities to participate in the Color Guard as well as the Homecoming Parade.
Life at Edgewood College is a pleasant mix of metrropolitan Madison (only 5 miles to downtown) and the outdoor life. Situated in the heart of the residential district just outside of the heart of Madison, Edgewood College is only minutes from the advantages of living in a major city. At the same time, Edgewood College sits on the edge of the UW - Madison Arboretum, a lage nature preserve with biking and running trails. The campus is also right on the edge of Lake Wingra, and close to the other 4 major lakes that make up the local waterways.
Most of the students at Edgewood College begin their career by living in the residential housing on campus. Meals and housing are all available on campus to students. In the later years, many students will find themselves living off-campus in any of the affordable apartments offered nearby or in the are closer to students from UW - Madison. Edgewood also offers students the ability to participate in Div II NCAA athletics with a number of sports including 6 men's sports and 8 women's sports. Combined with more than 30 student-led organizations, Edgewood College has much to offer prospective students.
