The School

The University of Wisconsin at Madison is the main campus of the University of Wisconsin School System. With a campus of more than 900 acres and 9 Undergraduate schools offering more than 150 majors, the University of Wisconsin - Madison is a great place to begin your future. The freshman class of 2008 included almost 6,000 students and the more than 28,000 undergraduates span every state in the United States and more than 100 countries internationally. The University of Wisconsin - Madison is ranked 7th nationally among all public universities and has 70 programs ranked nationally in the top 10.

The University of Wisconsin - Madison also opens up a world of opportunities to its students. With more than 2,200 faculty the ratio of students to faculty is 13-1. These faculty are nationally recognized, as the University is listed as the top public school for professors who have won prestigous awards or grants. The school also produces the most CEO's of S&P 500 companies. Additionaly, 18% of the undergraduate students study abroad, pushing the boundaries of the classroom to the international stage.

Badger ROTC

As the home campus for the Badger Battalion, the University of Wisconsin - Madison plays a large role in the Badger Battlion, both as the largest of the four schools and as the site of the unit Headquarters. Students from all cadets years engage in weekly classroom sessions and physical training as well as weekly labs where they perform the tasks of young Army Leaders. The students also participate in a wide variety of events on campus to include the Badger Bash on Badger Home Games, the Crazy Legs run, intramural sports, Homecoming and Ranger Challenge. Students also participate in a field training exercise (FTX) once each semester where they spend 3-4 days at Ft. McCoy putting the skills they learned in the classroom to the test. Student Life

Student life at the University of Wisconsin - Madison encompasses all types of lifestyles and provides opportunities for students of all interests to find their place. Most students begin their carrer living in one of the residense halls or in the off campus housing owned by the University. The University Housing is situated close by to the University's workout facilities, the Natatorium and the Southeaster Recreation Facility (SERF). Each of these locations provides the opportunity to engage in scheduled classes from martial arts to yoga, as well as featuring swimming pools and open rooms for spinning, weight lifiting and indoor sports. In addition, the University of Wisconsin - Madison is home to the Badgers, part of the Big Ten Conference in the NCAA, with 23 varsity Division 1 sports. Outside of Varsity athletics there are also 35 club and 30 intramurral teams for everything from flag footbal to ultimate frisbee.

If you are not interested in the athletic life, there are activities and events for every different interest. With over 700 university clubs, you are sure to find people with similar interests. There is also a great Greek Life with 48 different fraternities and sororities. Add in to that over 1,500 shows at the University Performing Arts Center and the Kohl Center, there are more things to do than hours in the day.

The City

The University of Wisconsin - Madison is situated in the heart of downtown Madison, Wisconsin. Besides hosting the state capital, the city is a center of metropolitan culture, but not far from the scenic outdoors of rural Wisconsin. Situated on the isthmus between Lake Mendota and Lake Menona, the city plays host to events for every walk of life. At the start of the school year, students can take part in or observe the national Ironman qualifying event or take a stroll down to the Capitol Square on Saturdays for the outdoor Farmer's Market. There are a number of museums within walking distance including the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art and the Wisconsin National Guard Veterans Museum. Students can also find a wide variety of different cusines from any number of local vendors, ranging from Arabic to Nepalese and traditional Afghan food to American favorites.

Prospective Student Expectations

Though the University of Wisconsin - Madison does not have a set requirement for scores in any specific category for admission, the following numbers can be used as a guideline. These numbers are the average scores of the 50th percentile for the incoming class of freshman for 2008-09:

Class Rank: 86th - 96th percentile
Unweighted GPA: 3.5 - 3.9
SAT: 1830 - 1980
ACT: 26 - 30
